Art of Ping Pong

Going for a paddle

Art of Ping Pong is a charitable project which asks some of the world’s best-known artists to create unique works on a ping pong bat. Those bats are then auctioned for charity. In the past, Anna Bu Kliewer, Matt Blease and James Joyce have all taken part.

This year, Art of Ping Pong are holding an exhibition of bats at The Civic in Barnsley. Artists already confirmed to be creating bats for the occasion include Gavin Turk, Jeremy Deller, Jamie Reid, Zandra Rhodes, Morag Myerscough, and from Breed, Steven Wilson

The Civic provides a programme of festivals, exhibitions and events that relate to the local community, as well as providing entertainment. The Art of Ping Pong exhibition opens there on 10 September and will run until 10 November, after which the bats will be auctioned to raise money for The Civic and Choose Love, a charity which supports refugees around the world and has recently been raising money to help assuage the suffering in Ukraine.

We’ll keep you updated as the exhibition date grows closer and when we can share Steve’s bat with you.
