About

Inspiring creativity. Founded by Olivia Triggs in 2007, Breed is a London-based illustration agency representing a select group of highly individual talents. We currently look after the work of 15 artists, illustrators and photographers, each with their own distinct style and perspective.

We pride ourselves on both the vision and variety of our artists and the lasting role we play in nurturing their talent, supporting their creative goals and finding opportunities where they can further explore their abilities.

With a hands-on approach, a culturally aware outlook and a spirited attitude, we’re the UK’s go-to agency for original art, photography and illustration.

We work with clients in spheres ranging from advertising and brands to fashion and retail and more. Below you can see a few of the names we’ve worked with in recent months.

Bio

Clay Hickson is an illustrator and publisher living in Los Angeles. For over a decade, he has worked with clients such as The New York Times, Penguin Random House UK, Herman Miller, Moog, A24, Hermès, and Chronicle Books.

After growing up in the small town of Sebastopol, California, Clay moved to Chicago to study printmaking at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. It was there that he developed a drawing practice that would eventually lead to his unwitting career in illustration. It was also where he met his wife, the illustrator Liana Jegers. Together, they founded Caboose Books (formerly Tan & Loose Press), a publishing platform focusing on limited-edition artist books and prints. Between 2017-2021, the pair also produced The Smudge, a monthly satirical print publication focused on politics, culture, and whatever else they could come up with.

Clay’s work has the feel of an era in the soft afterglow of West Coast psychedelia, everyone fantasising about living in Laurel Canyon, reading the alternative press and underground comics. There’s also an influence of Seymour Chwast and Milton Glaser, who co-founded Push Pin Studios in the 1950s, at work.
