Anna Bu Kliewer’s Bored in Hotels
You know how it is. You’re in a strange town or city for a conference, for work, for who knows what reason, you don’t know anyone, and you’re in your hotel room. You’ve checked the mini-bar, there’s nothing on telly, you’ve even found yourself flicking through the Gideon Bible. You’re bored in your hotel, a feeling Anna Bu Kliewer captures perfectly in her latest personal work, which is called Bored in Hotels. It’s a world of chintzy lampshades and gaudy eiderdowns, which form the background to Anna’s surreal use of collage, where her fabric-wreathed characters kill time.
