Neal Murren – A detailed look
The art of seeing
If you’re at all familiar with Neal’s work, you’ll know the extraordinary detail you’ll find in every piece, imaginary worlds within worlds and fantastic creatures both real and chimerical filling every inch. The closer you look, the more you discover and it’s all too easy to miss something.
That’s why we decided to help you out on this example of Neal’s work. ‘Mushrooms and Toadstools’ shows the front cover of what is likely a fanciful book. And it’s covered with fungi-derived hybrid creatures of all types. Here we show the original complete artwork, followed by some close-ups of just some of the characters it contains, from babies budding forth to literal toad stools. See what you discover that you didn’t notice when taking in the big picture. And this is one of Neal’s less densely populated works. Imagine what else you might have missed.
