Quentin Jones – Jewellery collaboration with Ryenn’s Eyes

Easy on Ryenn’s Eyes

In summer 2023, Quentin helped with the launch of a new jewellery brand, Ryenn’s Eyes, creating imagery and animations for them. They obviously felt a real connection with Quentin, as this year they invited her to collaborate with them on creating some items of jewellery, including a necklace, ring and earrings. Oh, and she also designed the packaging for them, naturally. The collection launches with month. Quentin generously took some time to talk about the collaboration.

What were your creative and stylistic aims for this collection?

I didn’t set out with aims, but more was curious about what sorts of forms spoke to me, and all the references – from sculpture to antique jewellery to paintings – were very fluid organic forms, that seemed like they lived somewhere between being abstract and alive.

What kind of person did you have in mind when coming up with ideas, in terms of who might wear the pieces?

I guess myself, and friends who share my sensibility, and just anyone who likes to be expressive with how they dress.

Having developed a relationship with Ryenn’s Eyes last year – what is it like working with them?

Working with the team at Ryenn’s Eye has been so free and fluid from the start. They are really open to my ideas, but equally could guide me on what they have found works and what might be less successful.

What surprised me was how they could take a design for earrings and translate it into a new design for earrings. And being shown new iterations of my designs was really cool because it allowed us to edit those further and land on things that felt like true collaborations.

How did you work together to create the finished products?

I found it really interesting to think about how physics plays into jewellery design so much. How gravity and weight versus where a hole in your ear is, create the final look of the way something hangs. Also, I hate uncomfortable jewellery, and the first iteration of some things were too heavy or bulky, so there was quite a bit of refining. I actually loved these steps, and how satisfying it is to get the final perfect piece.

Oh, and the final selection was so hard. We had fallen in love with everything we were developing and it was so hard to know what should make the final cut.

Tell us something about the process that surprised you.

How looking at one piece in both silver and gold can make it feel like entirely new designs.

Which is your favourite piece, and why?

Do I have to choose just one? I would say probably the gold chain necklace and the silver pearl ring.

Where would you personally wear these pieces?

The gold pieces are everyday for me, and the larger silver pieces are for parties and at night on holiday.

Overall, would you describe the collaboration as a success?

I guess the proof is in the reception and if people love wearing them. But I loved it all so much it has sparked a few new ideas for personal projects I want to start on next. ;)

The collection can be seen here.
