The article considers how sometimes the things we don’t buy, either because they’re too expensive or that we don’t see their true worth at the time, can sometimes stay with us and define us as much as the things we do buy and own. The thoughts are framed around stories of Modigliani selling his paintings for next to nothing in his own lifetime, just to get by.
