Breed – Danny Sangra’s favourite project
Personal best – Danny Sangra
Another part of a new series where we ask Breed artists to select a piece or project of their own that holds a special meaning for them. It may not necessarily be the most successful or even their favourite, simply one that stands out for them as important in some way. We’re intrigued to see the choices made and the stories they may lead to.
This time our subject is Danny Sangra. A maverick figure, Danny works in pretty much any medium you can imagine, and a few you probably wouldn’t. He makes film, full length features and shorts as well as ads. He started off painting and drawing, on paper, old magazines and walls, all of which he still does. He also takes photographs. Among his clients are The Beatles, Disney, Vogue and Mercedes-Benz. So, he has plenty to choose from. Let’s find out what his choice is.
What piece have you chosen?
My wolf illustration.
Why is it special to you?
It’s become a symbol among my close friends. Years ago, I had a pin made with this wolf on it. If we work together closely or you’re someone the group can trust, you get one – but the rule is, you can never ask for it.
What’s the story behind it?
I wanted something with teeth.
How did you come to create this piece?
At the time, I had been just getting into directing. I hadn’t been drawing for a while. So, I started a new series of work. This wolf appeared and was titled ‘I still bite motherf**cker’
